The successful candidate may be offered a position in either the Public Works Maintenance Worker I, Public Works Maintenance Worker II or Public Works Maintenance Worker III classification. The range for the Public Works Maintenance Worker I, $18.81 - $22.57 per hour; for the Public Works Maintenance Worker II, $19.75 - $23.70, for the Public Works Maintenance Worker III, $20.74 - $24.89.
The City of Plano's Public Works Department is looking for hardworking and reliable Public Works Maintenance Workers to join our Utility Operations team. These positions play a critical role in maintaining and repairing the City's water distribution and wastewater collection systems that serve our businesses and nearly 300,000 residents. Working under the direction of crew leaders and supervisors, Maintenance Workers assist with preparing job sites, operating tools and equipment, and performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to keep essential water and sewer systems operating effectively.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and an eagerness to learn field operations, including water main repairs, sewer line maintenance, and water meter work. This position offers the opportunity to develop technical skills, gain valuable hands-on experience, and build a rewarding career in public service. Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the entry-level classification in the Public Works Maintenance Worker series. The incumbent follows routine procedures and guidelines in the application of prescribed duties and works under close supervision. This classification is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II and III in that the latter performs more complex technical duties requiring a higher level of knowledge and skill.

General
Job Functions:
* Assists preparing work areas; and securing job sites by setting up traffic control devices such as cones, barricades and advance warning signs.
* Prepares tools, materials, and equipment necessary for daily tasks; cleans, inspects, and maintains tools, equipment, and trucks.
* Complies with all written city policies and procedures
* Understands how to use basic personal protective equipment
* Drives to and from work locations as assigned.
* Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
Typical Decisions:
The incumbent is responsible for inspecting assigned equipment, identifying potential safety hazards and the use of safe work methods and safety equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Safety practices and procedures; proper and efficient use of hand and power tools; methods of tool and equipment maintenance; traffic control and barricade placement.
