Job Description
Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that support analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision making. This role will work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and software engineering teams to ensure reliable and high-quality data solutions.
Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesArchitecture & Design
- Design and own our end-to-end data platform architecture on Databricks and Apache Spark
- Define standards for data modeling, pipeline design, and data quality across the organization
- Evaluate and introduce new tools and frameworks as the team and company scales
- Drive decisions on medallion architecture, Delta Lake structure, and cluster optimization
Engineering & Delivery
- Build and maintain robust, scalable ELT/ETL pipelines using Spark and Databricks workflows
- Develop reusable frameworks, libraries, and templates that accelerate team productivity
- Own reliability and observability of our data pipelines — monitoring, alerting, and incident response
- Write clean, well-documented, testable code and hold the bar for engineering quality
Analytics & Enablement
- Partner with analytics and business stakeholders to translate complex needs into sound data models
- Build self-serve data assets that reduce bottlenecks and empower non-engineering users
- Support ad-hoc data investigations and exploratory analysis as needed
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Act as a technical mentor and go-to resource for junior and mid-level engineers on the team
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, and architectural discussions
- Help define hiring standards and contribute to interviewing and onboarding as the team grows
- Serve as a thought partner to leadership on data strategy and platform roadmap
- 7+ years of data engineering experience, with 2+ years operating at a senior or staff level
- Deep expertise with Apache Spark — performance tuning, optimization, and production troubleshooting
- Hands-on experience with Databricks including Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, and Databricks Workflows
- Strong SQL skills and experience with dimensional modeling, data vault, or medallion architecture
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade data pipelines with high reliability standards
- Comfortable operating as a generalist — you can move between infrastructure, pipelines, and analytics layers
- Strong communication skills; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with Python-based orchestration tools (Airflow, Prefect, or similar)
- Familiarity with dbt for transformation layers
- Cloud platform experience (AWS), cloud-native storage and compute
- Experience building with small teams at a growth-stage company
- Background in analytics engineering or data architecture in addition to core engineering
- Knowledge of data governance and security best practices
- Experience in financial services or highly regulated environments
