FT/Days | Mon-Fri, Sats being volunteers | Shifts rotate weekly between opener (6:30a-3p) and closer (8a- 4:30p)

Required Experience: 2yr relevant experience, Cardiac experience, Graduate of an Accredited Program, BLS, ARRT-N or CMMT

Job Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NM Tech) performs nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures. They work under a Radiologist's supervision. These procedures are for ambulatory and hospital patients. A physician or licensed provider requests them for diagnosing disease and injury. They follow established protocols.

Essential Functions Of

The Role
  • Quality Assurance: Performs high-quality nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures according to exam protocol. Evaluates the quality of imaging procedures and follows established standards. Maintains equipment by performing quality control as required by imaging manufacturers, RAM, or ACR. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment capabilities.
  • Caring Practices: Communicates with patients to identify service needs, ensure the correct exam is performed, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family, following HIPAA, about the test and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.
  • Patient Safety: Explains the procedure thoroughly to put patients tects patients and team members by following safety requirements, infection-control, protocols, and techniques. Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, and moving equipment into position. Uses proper aseptic or sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive procedures. Maintains hand hygiene requirements.
  • Radiation Safety: Safeguards patients, team members, and themselves by following all radiation safety rules, policies, and techniques. Verifies the correct radioactive drug for the exam or treatment. Screens patients for pregnancy status before the exam or treatment. Safely administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications per protocol. Educates patients on radiation safety techniques before and after the exam or treatment. Safely follows radiation disposal guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Reports issues to leadership or the appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory and ordering radiopharmaceuticals for patient care and Q.C. Works with colleagues, nursing partners, medical staff, and Radiologists. Ensures accurate transfer of patient images to the BSWH PACS for clinical review and dictation by physician partners.
Key Success Factors
  • Observe changes in patients' medical conditions and communicate them to nursing partners, physicians, and emergency teams. Administer first aid and use the emergency cart.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge, education, and skills for caring for these age groups: newborn, pediatric, young adult, adult, and geriatric.
  • Able to provide services timely, accurately, and cost-efficiently in compliance with established system and regulatory standards, policies and procedures.
  • Able to perform tasks autonomously without need for routine oversight.
  • Able to stay calm and helpful during stress. Takes reasonable steps to resolve issues.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by limiting wait times and providing courteous service. Remain professional, review patient satisfaction scores, and develop action plans when needed.
  • Able to serve as trainer by providing a quality education to new team members and students from BSW approved programs.
  • Adhering to policies, procedures, and workflows. These include PACS, EMR, image exchange systems, modality worklist integrity, record management, and Biomedical services.
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office, information security, electronic medical documentation, and email.
  • Able to take call, if required.
