* * JOB SUMMARY  The Supervisor of Pharmacy Techs manages the daily operations of the Pharmacy Technicians at an assigned site. Plans, organizes, supervises and assists with the day-to-day activities of the non-pharmacist staff and duties.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF

THE ROLE  Supervises day-to-day activities to ensure efficient Pharmacy operations. Reinforces and monitors performance expectations. Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective, and cost-effective manner and complies with established policies, procedures and regulatory agencies. Develops collaborative working relationships with Pharmacists, Nurses and other Medical staff. Initiates medication error reports as necessary, provides input and follow up in a timely manner.

Effectively coordinates and administers policies and procedures in conjunction with selection, orientation, training, assignment and staffing, evaluation, discipline and discharging employees in compliance with applicable employment regulations. Regularly attends continuing education seminars provided by the department. Assists management in preparation and communication of information to staff at mandatory staff meetings and as necessary. Trains employees on their day-to-day duties and coordinates staff education activities.

Helps identify and provide opportunities for staff to develop knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to contribute to the success of the department. May coordinate and administer special projects as assigned.  KEY SUCCESS FACTORS  Expert understanding of Pharmacy Care modalities, terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, terminology, drug use and aseptic techniques, standards, and equipment. Knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of prescription medications.

Must be able to read, write and follow instructions and flow chart protocols. Ability to sort, check, count, and verify numbers. Ability to follow established safety, infection control, environmental and isolation practices and procedures at all times. Interpersonal skills required to interact effectively with patients and staff. Ability to make tactical decisions around the allocation and direction of the work of supervised employees using established guidelines, policies and procedures.

Ability to make effective hiring and termination recommendations. Ability to train, and evaluate performance of supervised staff. General computer skills, including but not limited to:

Pharmacy Tech license through the TX Board of Pharmacy.
