J MAR’s client, a growing, privately held upstream oil & gas company, is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead financial oversight, strengthen reporting, and ensure compliance as the company expands its drilling and development activities. This role is ideal for a Controller who enjoys working in a lean, entrepreneurial environment, and partnering closely with leadership. The Controller will report directly to the Managing Partner.

• Oversee outsourced accounting functions, including revenue accounting, JIBs, production reporting, AP, and general ledger activities.
• Review financial data prepared by the outsourced firm to ensure accuracy, completeness, and GAAP compliance.
• Own the monthly close process, including review of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reports to leadership.
• Partner with executive leadership on forecasting, budgeting, and financial strategy.
• Manage cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and partner cash calls.
• Serve as the primary liaison between accounting, operations, land, and executive teams.
• Establish and enhance internal controls and financial processes.
• Coordinate and support external audits and tax reporting.
• Lead budgeting and cost analysis efforts to support capital planning and profitability.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and system optimization.
• Support special projects related to growth, acquisitions, and development activities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).
• Progressive oil & gas accounting leadership experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and Oil & Gas accounting practices.
• Proficiency in ERP accounting systems (Wolfe Pak/Pak Energy a plus) and advanced Excel skills.
• Comfortable operating in a small, fast-moving organization.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with leadership.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
