The Piping Designer is responsible for performing a broad range of piping design activities supporting oil and gas transportation and processing facilities. This role includes work on new greenfield projects as well as major brownfield upgrades and expansions related to the company’s hazardous liquids midstream pipelines, terminals, facilities, trucking stations, and loading racks.

Safety & Compliance
  • Enforce and uphold all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of employees, company assets, and the public.
Design & Drafting
  • Develop drawings for:
  • Midstream oil and gas facilities
  • Pump stations
  • Metering stations
  • LACT units
  • Terminals
  • Pig launchers and receivers
  • Trucking stations and loading racks
  • Produce and maintain:
  • Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
  • Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs)
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Plot plans
  • Isometric drawings
  • As-built drawings
  • 2D and 3D models
  • Generate Bills of Materials, line lists, tie-in lists, and valve lists.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Plant 3D software in accordance with industry standards.
  • Interpret and administer pipe material specifications and options.
Project Coordination & Execution
  • Conduct field assessments and gather data for as-built documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, drafting, purchasing, inspection, consultants, and operations personnel.
  • Review layouts and designs prepared by other designers/drafters for accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop complete design packages including concepts, sketches, models, and submittals.
  • Manage engineering master as-built drawing records and document control processes.
  • Coordinate design requirements with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in project meetings to define scope, schedules, review progress, and resolve issues.
  • Operate effectively with minimal supervision and coordinate across technical and managerial teams.

Required Education & Experience Education
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology or a related field.
Experience
  • 1–3 years of hazardous liquids midstream pipeline piping design experience preferred
  • OR
  • 3+ years of refining, petrochemical, gas midstream, or upstream oil & gas piping design experience required.
  • Proven experience using AutoCAD and Plant 3D software.
  • Ability to independently create and check designs and Bills of Materials prior to approval routing.
  • Strong knowledge of ISA and API industry standards and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, IEEE, IEC, and NFPA standards (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related design software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary project environment.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to attend industry conferences, seminars, and training sessions.
  • Ability to travel overnight to company facilities as required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
  • Subject to DOT random drug and alcohol screening.
