Responsibilities

The Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the design, coordination, and delivery of structured cabling, fiber, and telecommunications infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise data center environments. This role serves as the technical authority for telecom systems, ensuring designs meet industry standards, client requirements, and operational best practices. The position requires BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification, widely recognized as the gold standard in telecommunications design.

While a Professional Engineer (PE) license is not required, the RCDD credential establishes this role as a trusted design authority for large-scale data center infrastructure projects. The engineer will work closely with internal engineering disciplines, construction teams, and customers to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-performance telecom solutions.

  • Develop structured cabling and fiber distribution layouts for hyperscale and enterprise data centers.
  • Design telecom pathways, rack elevations, and detailed labeling and documentation packages.
  • Ensure designs comply with TIA-942, ANSI/BICSI standards, and hyperscaler-specific telecom requirements.
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and architectural teams to seamlessly integrate telecom infrastructure and pathways.
  • Support customer RFP and RFI responses by providing technically sound telecom designs and narratives.
  • Provide design oversight and field support during installation to ensure adherence to standards, specifications, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
  • BICSI Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification (required).
  • 5–10 years of experience in structured cabling and telecommunications design, preferably in data center environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of TIA-942, ANSI/BICSI, and related telecom standards.
  • Proficiency in CAD and Revit for telecom drawing and documentation development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting hyperscale data center projects or large enterprise data center campuses.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic systems, including single-mode and multimode design, pathway planning, and redundancy strategies.
  • Experience collaborating with construction teams during design-build or fast-track project delivery.
  • Knowledge of data center operational requirements, including scalability, resilience, and maintainability.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present telecom designs to clients and internal stakeholders.
