SALARY:

Water Pump Station Operator I is $20.74 - $29.04 per hour; for the Water Pump Station Operator II: $22.86 – $32.02 per hour

Shift 1

  • Sunday: 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Monday: 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Tuesday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM

Shift 2

  • Thursday: 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM
  • Friday: 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM
  • Saturday: 12:00 AM – 12:00 PM

OVERVIEW:

The ideal candidate will play a key part in operating and monitoring our SCADA system, which helps manage four (4) pump stations, six (6) lift stations, and ten (10) water towers. The ideal candidate will receive, and dispatch after-hours service calls for various city departments (except police, fire, and animal services).

The preferred candidates will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in operating SCADA and at least four (4) years working in the pumping (Water Utilities) and wastewater field.

You will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license.

The Pump Station Operator I position requires a least one (1) year of experience in operating SCADA and at least two (2) years working in the pumping (Water Utilities) and wastewater field.

The ideal candidate will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license.

The Pump Station Operator II position requires at least three (3) years of experience in operating SCADA/pump station operations. The ideal candidate will need a Class (C) Water Distribution license and a Wastewater Collection II license (or better).

DUTIES:

Under administrative supervision, the Public Works Operations Manager (Water/Wastewater) is responsible for the water/wastewater field maintenance groups within the Public Works Department. This responsibility includes the repair and maintenance of City water main, services, meters, valves, sewer pipe, sewer manholes, and other water/wastewater related distribution and collection infrastructure. Position responsibilities also include development and implementation of safety and job-related training for supervisory and field level staff.

In addition, the position includes coordination of disaster related responses such as customer shutoffs, debris removal, and departmental support of police and fire.

Water Pump Station Operator I Distinguishing Characteristics:

This is the entry level classification in the Pump Station Operator series. The incumbent carries out adequate and practical methods to attain desired objectives as assigned by a supervisor or a more senior level Pump Station Operator while working within established directions, procedures and policies. Methods require use of initiatives and resourcefulness in executing processes and procedures. Works under indirect supervision, conferring with supervisor or more senior Pump Station Operator on questions and unusual matters.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Monitors and controls pump stations, water towers, valves, and wastewater lift stations using computerized supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) operating system.
  • Coordinates with North Texas Municipal Water District to ensure adequate supply of water is being received in ground storage reservoirs.
  • Coordinates Public Works resources with needs requested by other agencies (Police, Fire, EMS, Emergency Management) as well as mutual aid requests from neighboring cities, during emergency conditions or situations.
