Summary
The purpose of this position is to manage projects, review, analyze and recommend traffic safety and mobility improvements. This is accomplished by coordinating programs, projects, and contracts, reviewing, and evaluating engineering design submittals, researching, or piloting studies, ensuring all contracts comply with policies and regulations, reviewing schedules and recommending any traffic modifications. Other duties include analyzing traffic and accident data, developing, and revising traffic policies, reviewing, and approving traffic control plans, and other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Manages projects by overseeing planning, engineering design, coordinating review with other departments and staff, as well as contract scope, schedule, and budget administration, and communicating project progress.
- Conduct engineering studies and designs by reviewing plans, specifications, and estimates, ensuring all submittals comply with local, state and federal regulations, overseeing traffic control plans development and implementation, coordinating with consultants and construction contractors, overseeing studies and reports, preparing requests for proposals and bids, conducting pre‑bid and pre‑construction meetings, reviewing contract proposals and bids, and participating in the consultant selection process.
- Develops and manages the traffic initiatives by reviewing and managing data collection, conducting field traffic assessments, recommending programs and projects for improvements, reviewing, and approving scheduled construction and maintenance lane closures
Minimum:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 3 - 5 years' relevant experience in Traffic or Transportation Engineering industry
- Ability to obtain Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license within 6 months.
- Master's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering
- Texas Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Certified for Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE)
