POSITION: Instructor of Management of Information Systems
LOCATION: Wayland Baptist University – Plainview, TX
SUPERVISED BY: Dean of the School of Business
POSITION CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

General ResponsibilitiesAs a full‑time faculty member, the Instructor of Management of Information Systems will be primarily responsible for teaching. Faculty members are expected to have an authentic Christian faith evident through their personal interactions and activities, commitment to a local church body, and to be a model for our students.
Specific Tasks and Duties- Prepare and teach (24) semester hours each academic year as part of a 12‑month contract.
- Keep required paperwork, including grades and attendance, submitting reports when requested:
- Grades updated weekly on Blackboard
- Attendance updated daily on Blackboard
- Syllabus posted by start of term on Blackboard
- Student Status Report (course grade to that point) about 1/3 through the 16‑week term through Student Services – may also include Concurrent Student spreadsheet to Registrar’s Office
- Final Grades (course grade for the 16‑week term and including last date attended for failing grades) through Student Services – may also include Concurrent Student spreadsheet to Registrar’s Office
- Periodic grade and/or attendance checks requested by Department of Student Success and/or Department of Athletics
- Abide by accommodations sent by the Title IX Coordinator and/or Disability Services Coordinator.
- Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours per week.
- Be available on campus five days a week.
- Dress professionally and appropriately for the tasks assigned.
- Academically advise undergraduates and assist with registrations and recruiting events.
- Assist the dean and faculty members in developing new courses/programs, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi.
- Assist the dean and faculty members in ACBSP accreditation.
- Maintain competence in the use of Wayland’s adopted online teaching and retention management systems, including the satisfactory completion of all necessary annual training:
- Blackboard
- Colleague
- Endorsement by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Ability to pass background checks.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree or equivalent in the appropriate discipline.
- Experience and Knowledge: Basic knowledge of the teaching field and commitment to the development of appropriate instructional strategies.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for financial data and presentations.
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Discretion and integrity.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
The work environment for this position is a standard office setting with a controlled temperature and moderate noise levels. The position also requires teaching in a university classroom setting, involving direct interaction with students, delivery of lectures, facilitation of discussions, and management of classroom dynamics.
Hours of WorkPlainview campus:
Although full‑time, nonexempt Plainview employees are normally scheduled to work 37.75 hours per week; the official work week for full‑time salaried employees is forty (40) hours. Normal workdays on all campuses are Monday through Friday.
- Frequently stand and walk.
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward while sitting or standing.
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds and occasionally to 25 pounds.
- Frequently carry up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally pull or push objects.
- Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees.
- Frequently reach at or below shoulder height and occasionally above shoulder height.
Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor performance. New hires must provide documentation within three (3) days of hire date to establish identity and employment eligibility as required by ICE. Must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable vehicle, and possess a valid state driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s record.
