Overview

Salary: $15.50, hourly; $1 premium when working Saturdays and Sundays.

Schedule: Must be available up to 25 hours weekly and may work up to 40 hours weekly. Early morning and weekend availability preferred.

Position

The Lifeguard Crew Leader is responsible for everyday operational tasks at Plainfield Aquatic Center indoor and/or outdoor operations. Responsibilities include but are not limited to lifeguarding, participant safety, maintaining skills and working at other Plainfield Parks and Recreation facilities as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Aquatic

    Risk Management:

    Identifying and mitigating risks in aquatic facilities with the assistance of aquatic supervisors on duty. This includes but is not limited to: correcting lifeguard behavior, cleaning pool and pool deck, maintaining pool chemicals, maintaining pool pumps, lifeguarding, etc. Please note that you may be asked to stay after or come in before scheduled operational hours to assist with maintaining and cleaning aquatic facilities.
  • All lifeguard crew leaders must maintain minimum number of in-service hours required by the department.
  • Aquatic Facility Maintenance and Operations:
    Will assist with cleaning and policing grounds, pool deck and bathhouse facilities. May assist with answering phones, communication with vendors, employees and customer service. May also assist with pool vacuuming and special event equipment set-up and tear-down; involves lifting and/or other labor-intensive duties.
  • Personnel:
    May assist with supervision of volunteers and/or program participants.
  • Programming:
    May assist with teaching, coaching or assisting with lessons, swim team and other programs and special events at location in accordance with Town affiliated and authorized instructional guidelines and protocol. May assist with the supervision and “check-in” of aquatic programming.
  • Documentation:
    Assists with water testing, accident reports, program registrations and other operational reports and records.
  • Policy and Procedure:
    Follows all policies and procedures as described in the Town of Plainfield employee manual and all other Town and department protocols, policies and guidelines including those outlined by Ellis and Associates Risk Management standards and other affiliated organizational values and protocols.
  • Swim Instructor:
    Be comfortable and able to teach ages 3-12 how to swim.
  • Swim Instructor:
    Be able to communicate with parents/guardians in a professional manner representing the Town of Plainfield.
  • Swim Instructor:
    Be able to pass all requirements set forth by the Jeff Ellis Swim Instructor Course.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervisory Responsibilities: Lifeguard Crew Leaders are responsible for the supervision and leadership of the lifeguards and swim lesson instructors on their shifts.
