Job Description

Per Diem

The Registered Nurse (RN) acts as a caregiver for a specific patient population to achieve desired outcomes, providing direct care as part of an interdisciplinary team. The RN directs and oversees care provided by other caregivers, coordinates patient care/unit activities among nurses, physicians, and support services.

Responsibilities
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health.
  • Perform age and disease specific assessment / data collection independently.
  • Recognize clinical and diagnostic changes in patient status.
  • Identify variables in patient/family education needs based on age, disease, and cultural differences.
  • Develop and coordinate a plan of care focused on patient/family goals and outcomes.
  • Communicate, coordinate, and implement the plan of care.
  • Provide ongoing communication with patients, families, nursing colleagues and other health care team members regarding status and treatment plans.
  • Perform assessments, plan, interventions, and evaluation of rendered care per protocols.
  • Administer medications using bar‑scanning and documentation technologies.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary discharge for safe transition.
  • Evaluate progress toward outcomes.
  • Initiate interventions related to changes in condition or unexpected responses.
  • Identify ethical issues and report to team.
  • Recognize opportunities to enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain required competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
  • Adhere to ANA Code of Ethics and HMH Organizational competencies.
  • Lift a minimum of 35 lb, push/pull a minimum of 10 lb, and stand a minimum of 6 hours per day.
  • Adhere to HMH’s standards of behavior.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Education,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BSN in progress and/or willing to acquire within three (3) years of hire.
  • Six (6) or more months of relevant nursing experience OR active participant in Hackensack Meridian Health’s Nurse Residency Program.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs, strong sense of accountability, teamwork orientation, dedication to ongoing education and passion for delivering highest quality patient care.
Licenses and Certifications Required
  • NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License.
  • BLS/CPR certification by American Heart Association required within 60 days of hire.

Skills and Abilities

Preferred
  • National Certification in area of specialty preferred when eligible.
Compensation

Minimum hourly rate of $45.73. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. Posted rate is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay.

Job Duties

Base compensation may vary based on market data, experience, education and certifications, skills, geographic location, internal equity, budget, and grant funding. Eligible employees may receive performance-based incentives, bonuses, or commissions. Shift differentials may apply for evening, night, or weekend shifts. Full‑time and part‑time positions (20+ hours/week) enter a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and retirement.
