Adult Services Assistant

Overview

Are you passionate about serving the community and providing exceptional customer service? The Plainfield Area Public Library has an opening for a position in the Adult Services Department! This department offers programming, reference and technology assistance, and readers’ advisory for our community’s adults.

• Welcome patrons at the Adult Services Desk, and help them navigate all the Library has to offer.
• Answer basic reference and readers’ advisory questions in person, by phone, and by email. Refer complex questions to the appropriate librarian.
• Assist with using a computer, printer, copier, or scan and fax station.
• Instruct how to access online resources, including eBooks and audio books.
• Locate items in the collection or place holds on items.
• Create a flyer and choose items for a display.
• Collaborate with staff from other departments on a committee or special event.
• Two years of related experience in libraries or customer service in a public setting
• Fantastic communication and customer service skills
• Attention to detail and organization
• Basic technology and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
• Ability to work the third Saturday of every month and flexible daytime and evening hours during the week

This position is scheduled to work 19 hours per week. Pay and benefits include:

• Hourly rate of $15.48 to $17.42, depending on experience
