Up to 30 hours of Mandatory Paid School Age Child Care Licensing Training
Plainfield YMCA is currently seeking School Age Child Care (SACC) Counselors who are cause-driven leaders committed to nurturing children, promoting youth development and fostering social responsibility. SACC Counselors supervise groups of children at site-specific locations under the direction of the SACC & Camp Program Director, Senior Program Director and Site Supervisor. This job is fully on-site.

Spanish Bilingual preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Assist with a varied and challenging program of activities for children ages 6-13, including Homework Time, Enrichment Activities, Organized Physical Activities, Free Play and Snack Time.
  • Assist Site Supervisor with supervision of all children in site groups of 6-100.
  • Build relationships with children and families—positively greet them every day.
  • Maintain discipline during all activities under the guidance of the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Assist Site Supervisor with motivating and encouraging all children to participate in program activities.
  • Provide a safe environment for children and follow all required safety procedures in case of emergency.
  • Assist Site Supervisor in developing an attractive, organized, clean, and stimulating space:
    • Cleaning and disinfecting of all equipment as per state requirements (daily or weekly).
    • Maintain site/room, equipment, and materials in an orderly and safe manner.
    • Set up the site/room in advance of the children’s arrival and clean up after departure.
    • Maintain group belongings including state binder, student information sheets, necessary medications when off‑site, and first aid kit.
  • Keep Site Supervisor apprised of situations requiring their attention related to children’s behavior.

Requirements
  • Work 5 days a week, Monday – Friday, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
  • Reliable transportation to multiple locations.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or senior in High School.
  • Experience working with children in a structured group setting.
  • Ability to learn quickly and solve child‑to‑child situations.
  • Good communication skills and ability to relate to diverse groups.
Training, Adherence & Licensing Requirements
  • Embrace YMCA Core Values:

  • Attend all required training, seminars, and meetings (weekdays, evenings, weekends).
  • Complete onboarding and new‑hire training within 2 weeks to 30 days.
  • Provide health‑care provider statement and maintain a Mantoux tuberculin skin test within six months.
  • Register in the NJCCIS Workforce Registry with updated professional profile.
  • Complete health and safety training:
    Health and Safety Basics, Identifying Child Abuse and Neglect, Foundations of Child Development or Youth Growth Development, CPR and First Aid.
  • Complete a criminal background check.
