The Driver, Hourly CDL-A drives a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and/or unload food and related products to customers. Communicates with customers, vendors and co-workers professionally and ensures timely, accurate service. Functions as a team member within the department and organization and performs duties to best serve the company.
Responsibilities- Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip) and inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). report safety issues and repairs as needed.
- Follow DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines; adhere to all safety policies.
- Report safety hazards; inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Count items and verify customer invoices for loaded products; complete required paperwork legibly and accurately.
- Move tractor to loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
- Drive to and deliver customer orders according to the route schedule; unload products and transport to designated storage areas.
- Perform damage control checks, scan items, and coordinate with supervisor to remove orders per policy; obtain customer signatures and collect payments when required.
- Load customer returns onto trailer and secure; ensure equipment and freight are secured.
- Unload damaged goods and returns; complete necessary paperwork and remove trash as required.
- Complete daily hours-of-service records and log per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping in the tractor and loading dock area; keep trailers clear and secure equipment at shift end.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent
- 6+ months food service distribution industry experience
- Valid CDL-A; must be 21+ years of age
- Meet all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable)
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years
- Pass post-offer drug test and criminal background check
- Pass road test
- Attains or has valid current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card
- Able to hand-lift and use two-wheeler, lift gate and/or other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight up to 60–90 lbs depending on location
