GENERAL PURPOSE
The General Manger position is responsible for the administration, programming, and total operations of the Richard

A. Carlucci Recreation and Aquatic Center. The role also serves at the Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation in the absence of the Director. The General Manager is a dynamic and energetic leader with ability to be the conduit for collaboration between multiple divisions by using sound business practices and ensuring exceptional experiences for our customers and staff.

This position will be a part of a rotating schedule that requires flexibility and availability to be scheduled anywhere from 5:00am through 10:00pm, includes weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Is the General Manger (GM) at the recreation and aquatic center to include: the oversight of recreation services, guest services, aquatics, and programming operations.
  • Cultivates a positive environment for customers and employees to include exceptional customer service and teamwork.
  • Develops and implements business plans for the recreation center in consultation with the director of parks and recreation to enhance public and member participation in membership, programming, and daily sales to reach cost-recover goals for the center.
  • Directs and evaluates work activities for employees of the recreation and aquatic center including monitoring workload, assignments, and progress in achieving set goals.
  • Assists with the marketing efforts of the recreation and aquatic center as well as Splash Island seasonal operations.
  • Develops and manages divisional budgets with comprehensive analysis of cost recovery goals, lifecycle cost analysis, equipment replacement planning, and labor cost management.
  • Enforces rules, government regulations, policies, and procedures relating to the operation of recreation center and in compliance with department policies.
  • Completes administrative duties to include attending meetings, reviewing reports, completing various reports, approving departmental payroll, approving invoices, answering inquiries, etc., as needed.
  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of recreation and aquatic center laws and regulations.
  • Directly oversees the maintenance operations and develops preventive maintenance and capital maintenance short- and long-term plans.
  • Researches and maintains awareness of recreation lifestyle trends to cater programming and services desired by the community and target market users.
  • Responds to customer questions and complaints related to division operations; research and initiates problem resolution; evaluates customer requests and responds as appropriate.
  • Responsible for revenue cost recovery goals set by town management. Takes on special departmental projects as needed and serves as the Director of Parks in the absence of the Parks Director.
  • Provides an atmosphere of open communications with public and staff, both daily and in face-to-face situations, so they feel free to contribute ideas and suggestions regarding all aspects of department operations; solicits customer input through surveys, focus groups, advisory committees and similar methods.
  • Regularly works scheduled supervisory and Manager on Duty Shifts on a rotating basis.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the operations management-level employees at the Recreation and Aquatic Center. Employee carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; scheduling and approving time worked; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
