Plainfield Correctional Facility

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Plainfield Correctional Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The Plainfield Correctional Facility is a medium security Correctional facility for adult males. Plainfield Correctional Facility is located in Plainfield, Indiana.

The Plainfield Correctional Facility offers resources and treatment geared toward mental health and substance use, along with multiple educational opportunities. The goal is that through treatment and rehabilitation geared toward everyone, the facility will help prepare incarcerated men to re-enter their community with more skills and confidence than when they arrived.

Role Overview

As a SERT Team Member you will work in a correctional environment statewide to include all Department of Correction facilities and Parole Districts. You will be responsible for following all policy and procedure as it relates to agency emergency preparedness/response and will work under the general supervision of a correctional lieutenant.

Salary

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day In The Life

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Conducts facility emergency drills.
  • Conducts facility armory inspections in cooperation with the Division of Field Audits.
  • Instructs emergency team trainees at various academies.
  • Maintains all Emergency Response Operations vehicles and equipment.
  • Acts as mutual aid representatives in the Statewide Emergency Operations Center.
  • Functions as a SERT Team Member during emergency situations.
  • Must be trained/certified in emergency tactics such as diversion, entry, hostage rescue, hostage negotiations and crisis stress intervention.
  • Qualified on all SERT Team weapon systems.
  • Successfully pass the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Academy physical fitness test.
  • Must successfully pass the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Academy for Correctional Police.
  • Must meet prescribed medical standards.

What You ll Need For Success

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • Obtain and maintain a CDL driver’s license.
  • Obtain outside agency training certifications.
  • The ability to remain awake and alert for up to sixteen (16) hours at a time;
  • The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing;
  • A thorough knowledge of and understanding of the Department of Correction and the facility rules, regulations, policies and administrative procedures;
  • The ability to defend oneself physically.
  • The ability to supervise and obtain results from offenders and subordinate staff;
  • The ability to react with control in emergency situations.
  • The ability to act as a positive role model for offenders and subordinate staff;
  • The ability to operate security equipment.
  • The ability to work within a culturally diverse environment.
  • The ability to interact with offenders, co-workers, and the general public;
  • The ability to submit to and pass a urinalysis test.
  • The ability to attend, participate, and complete annual training;
  • The ability to remain current on all mandatory certifications, including first aid and CPR;
  • The ability to supervise subordinate staff in a firm, fair, and consistent manner.
