Agricultural Biology Technician

Job Overview

Join our team as an Agricultural Biology Technician in El Dorado County. This seasonal role provides hands‑on experience protecting local agriculture from invasive species. You’ll monitor weed and pest populations, apply herbicides or remove weeds manually, and maintain detailed field records.

• Set and record the findings of various insect and pest traps.
• Respond to public inquiries and prepare appropriate responses.
• Survey agricultural areas—including fields, orchards, gardens, and mills—to locate pests and inspect range, farm roadsides, warehouses, and buildings.
• Examine plant material in nurseries for insect pests and plant diseases; place and inspect insect traps as required.
• Inspect agricultural products at origin or markets for compliance with standards.
• Perform pesticide monitoring inspections (pre‑application, application, field‑worker safety), inspect equipment and storage facilities, and review records.
• Prepare and conduct appropriate training sessions.

• One (1) year of public contact explaining services and procedures to the public, OR one (1) year of ensuring public compliance with rules and/or regulations.
• Desirable:
  Two years of college with at least ten units in agriculture or biological science.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Specified positions may require a Class B license for operating a three‑axle truck with large‑scale weighing equipment.

Three (3) extra‑help vacancies for a minimum of three (3) months. Extra‑help employees receive sick leave but are not considered regular employees.
