Description
The County of El Dorado Health and Human Services Agency is committed to transforming lives and improving futures for the citizens of El Dorado County. The County’s Substance Use Disorder Services (SUDS) Program leads efforts to prevent and reduce substance use disorders through evidence‑based approaches to prevention, treatment, and recovery.
The OpportunityWe are seeking two Advanced Level Substance Use Treatment Counselors in Placerville and South Lake Tahoe. The selected candidate will have expertise working with co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorder clients and a strong background in counseling within community or criminal justice settings.
Responsibilities- Conduct screening and assessments in the office and in the field and develop treatment strategies based on industry standards.
- Create and manage case plans and Treatment Authorization Requests in accordance with state and county requirements.
- Provide direct individual and group counseling, document all pertinent information, and maintain accurate assessment and progress notes.
- Refer clients to outside treatment resources, consult with providers for placement, and conduct ongoing case management when needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education to maintain counseling certifications.
- Conduct community assessment activities to identify health knowledge deficits and resource needs.
- Develop educational resources and materials, and contribute to interdisciplinary planning teams and community stakeholder groups.
- Coordinate and conduct program evaluation activities.
- Bachelor of Science in Counseling, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or closely related field.
- Two (2) years of professional counseling experience in a substance use disorder treatment program.
- Valid California or Nevada Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor by a California Department of Health Care Services approved certifying organization (e.g., CA Association for Alcohol and Drug Educators).
- Strong written and verbal communication, high organization, and the ability to handle confidential information efficiently.
Energetic and compassionate counselor who advocates for the best care for clients, collaborates with multidisciplinary teams, and supports clients in reaching treatment goals. Proven experience with adults and youth/adolescents is desirable.
