Overview
Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (“COTA”) to provide quality care to our patients. Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, the COTA helps plan and implement patient treatment, plan and coordinate patient discharge, and prepare detailed progress reports and appropriate patient documentation. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques, use of adaptive equipment and splinting.
The COTA will not be expected to perform patient evaluations. The COTA will continually collaborate with the rehab team in order to coordinate the most effective occupational therapy program.

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations
- Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist:
- Determine patients’ treatment needs
- Participate in patient assessment, including providing information to the Occupational Therapist for analysis
- Provide patient treatment and services, as recommended by the Occupational Therapist
- Ensure treatment programs meet patients’ needs
- Recommend termination of services or treatment, as necessary
- Report to Clinical Director or Administrator
- Treat patients according to the treatment plan written by the Occupational Therapist
- Communicate regularly with supervisor, other members of the rehabilitation team, and family regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosis
- Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries per Company policy and procedure
- Complete all required documentation from your daily treatments/interventions prior to leaving the facility
- Educate patient families and caregivers in treatment and any applicable maintenance programs
- Participate in discharge planning
- Submit all billing and necessary information prior to leaving the facility
- Report any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately
- Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelines
- Comply with Company rules, policies and procedures
- Comply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures
- Report to work regularly and on-time
- Be willing and able to act as a Mentor for new OT/COTA or recently hired OT/COTA
- Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:
- Supervise level 1 and level 2 students regularly
- Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programs
- Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines
- Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic program
