OverviewThe City of Pittsfield’s Recreation Department is seeking outgoing, qualified individuals to fill the seasonal position of Playground Leader. Under the direction of the Recreation and Special Events Coordinator, the Playground Leader is responsible for administering and supervising the summer playground program in their designated park, working with children 6 to 13 years of age.

Responsibilities- Work effectively with Playground Supervisor and members of the public, responding to inquiries and complaints in a positive and professional manner.
- Supervise program attendees and report problems or issues to the supervisor.
- Implement daily structured programs and aid in preparation of final program evaluation.
- Ensure adequate supplies and materials are available for program implementation.
- Keep the park grounds and restrooms clean and presentable.
- Attend program staff meetings and/or trainings as directed by the supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Must be able to work the duration of the program. The 2025 program runs from July 7th – August 15th.
- Must be 15 years of age or older.
- Candidates under 18 must provide an Employment Permit (working papers) from the Pittsfield School Administration Building.
The incumbent works in various dynamic locations and must interact and communicate frequently with the public, government officials, other staff members and boards, and/or third parties transacting business with the City. Frequent periods of outside work, sometimes inclement weather.
Physical RequirementsMust be capable of moving freely through the parks, interacting with program attendees, and carrying at least 25 pounds.
Hours40 hours per week.
Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Salary$17.99 – $23.37 per hour, hourly rate commensurate with experience.
