Definition/Primary FunctionsRegistered Nurse is the designation given to an individual who is licensed to practice professional nursing, holds ultimate responsibility for direct and indirect nursing care, is a graduate of an approved school for professional nursing, and is currently licensed as a Registered Nurse pursuant to M.G.L. c.112. Included in such responsibility is providing nursing care, health maintenance, teaching, counseling, planning and evaluation for optimal functioning and comfort, of those they serve.
The Registered Professional Nurse functions as a health care team leader responsible for the safe delivery of patient-centered, goal oriented care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. The Registered Professional Nurse also directs and guides patient teaching and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining standards of professional nursing. The Registered Nurse in the perioperative department at NARH performs in all phases of the perioperative course providing care during the pre-admission testing, preoperative, intraoperative and post operative care of the patient.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Has a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures.
- Minimum of two years perioperative RN experience either in endoscopy or OR preferred.
- Associates Degree in Nursing. BSN preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing process through his/her understanding, judgment and skills.
- RN License
- Currently licensed as an RN in Massachusetts - BLS
- ACLS & PALS within 6 months of hire
- Specialty certification required within 6 months of eligibility.
- Demonstrates continuing education in accordance with State regulations. Assures compliance with unit-specific scope of practice. Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- Knowledge and application of surgical aseptic technique
- Ability to perform effectively in stressful and emergency situations.
- Demonstrated professional communication with all internal and external contacts.

The minimum and maximum of the hourly pay range for this position is shown above. Actual rates of pay may vary based on a range of factors including but not limited to experience and qualifications.
