Lead Manufacturing Engineer
USPRO is looking for a hands‑on Lead Manufacturing Engineer to drive continuous improvement across metal fabrication, vehicle assembly, and finishing operations. This role is deeply embedded on the shop floor, where you’ll lead efforts to streamline processes, eliminate waste, improve workflow, and raise performance across safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Base pay range$90,000.00/yr – $/yr
Key Responsibilities- Lead and execute continuous improvement initiatives across metal fabrication, paint, and assembly operations, focusing on waste elimination, process efficiency, and flow improvement.
- Identify and eliminate inefficiencies, over‑processing, rework, and non‑value‑added activities using Lean manufacturing principles and structured problem‑solving methods.
- Apply Lean tools and methodologies—including value stream mapping, standard work, visual management, poka‑yoke, and 6S—to drive measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
- Champion, implement, and sustain 6S standards on the shop floor, promoting organization, consistency, and accountability.
- Plan and facilitate Kaizen events and cross‑functional improvement initiatives, engaging production, quality, maintenance, and supply chain stakeholders.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, work instructions, and standard operating procedures to support scalable and repeatable operations.
- Provide hands‑on technical and process support for metal fabrication operations, including laser cutting, forming, welding, and material handling.
- Support engineering activities by assisting with Solid Works models, drawings, and bills of materials.
- Assist with and troubleshoot Trumpf CNC programs for laser cutting and press brake operations.
- Track, analyze, and report key performance improvements related to cycle time, throughput, scrap, rework, and labor efficiency.
- Lead, mentor, and support a small team of engineers, technicians, or continuous improvement specialists, fostering skill development and continuous learning.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to align improvement initiatives with operational goals and business priorities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, confidentiality, and data protection policies, and adhere to all company procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of manufacturing and continuous improvement objectives.
- Minimum of 10 years of manufacturing engineering experience, with demonstrated impact in metal fabrication and production environments.
- Strong hands‑on experience with CNC laser operations, welding, metal forming, and assembly processes.
- Working knowledge of overhead cranes, forklifts, and material handling systems.
- Proven ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Operations, Sales, and Finance teams.
- Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools, including Kaizen, visual management, day‑by‑hour tracking, Kanban replenishment systems, and cell/value stream layout.
- Demonstrated expertise in fixture, work holding, tool, and gauge design, as well as DFMEA methodologies.
- Experience with capital equipment selection, justification, and implementation.
- Proficiency with Solid Works and CAD software preferred.
- Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal and teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with company policies and procedures.
- College or trade school education required; degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Industrial Technology preferred.
- Solid foundational math, reading, and documentation skills required.
- Military experience equivalency may substitute for some requirements.
