Barrington Stage Company, an award‑winning professional theatre company located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking two Scenic Artists to join our team in Pittsfield, MA.

JOB OVERVIEW

The Scenic Painter is responsible for painting sets, backdrops, and other scenic elements according to the design specifications. This role involves working with a variety of paints and techniques to achieve the desired aesthetic. This position requires a creative individual with strong painting skills and knowledge of theatrical painting techniques.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Paint sets, backdrops, and other scenic elements according to design specifications using various paints and techniques.
  • Follow safety protocols, interpret design concepts, and collaborate with other team members to meet project deadlines.
  • Assist during load‑ins and load‑outs as needed and adhere to all safety guidelines to prevent accidents.
  • Maintain paint shop tools and equipment, to ensure they are in safe and proper working order, and properly cleaned and put away.
  • Keep the paint shop and storage areas clean and free of debris, and wipe up any spills/drips, and be aware of overspray so as not to damage any other items or infrastructure.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency in a variety of painting techniques and materials.
  • Creativity and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and execute design concepts.
  • Experience with theatrical painting and scenic art.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and best practices.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Must be comfortable working with students & volunteers.
