POSITION SUMMARY:
The Plumber/Pipe Fitter is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various piping systems in compliance with building codes and safety regulations. This role requires expertise in commercial plumbing and pipe fitting, including welding, blueprint interpretation, and emergency response.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of an advanced vocational or apprenticeship program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in commercial plumbing and pipe fitting.
- Valid Allegheny County Plumber's License
- Certification and experience in pipe welding, including backflow testing certification.
- Comprehensive knowledge of building codes, material specifications, and plumbing industry standards.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents
- Skilled in using power tools, hand tools, and specialized plumbing equipment
- Physical ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and high lifts, and lift up to 100 lbs.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to respond to emergencies.
DUTIES:
- Install, maintain, and repair various piping systems, including copper, plastic, steel, cast iron, gas, water, sewage, steam, and condensation piping.
- Ensure all installations comply with building codes and safety regulations
- Cut, fit, bend, solder, weld, braze, and install piping systems using appropriate techniques and materials.
- Operate hand and power threaders and cutters proficiently.
- Perform mandatory backflow preventer testing and update records accordingly.
- Respond to plumbing-related emergencies on campus, including nights and weekends.
- Carry a University-issued cell phone for emergency call outs.
- Assist other trades as needed to support maintenance operations.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Operations.
Work Environment:
Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
Work Demands:
Job requires repetitively lifting average weight objects with repetitive bending and stooping. Frequently lifts heavy objects but alternating with lighter activities. Job may require physical exertion such as long periods of standing. Job may require above-average agility and dexterity. Physical ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, and high lifts, and lift up to 100 lbs.
