Job Summary:
The Outpatient Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct clinical support to a single physician, ensuring comprehensive patient care and efficient clinical operations. This role is crucial for managing patient inquiries, coordinating pre/post-operative care, and facilitating communication within the care team. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong independent judgment, excellent teamwork skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
* Clinical Patient Management:
* Serve as the primary clinical contact for patients, addressing inquiries and concerns related to their care plan.
* Triage patient calls and messages, directing clinical questions and urgent needs to Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and/or the physician as appropriate.
* Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, and self-management strategies.
* Care Coordination & Tracking:
* Proactively track and manage all pre-operative and post-operative testing, appointments, and clearances, ensuring timely completion and communication with relevant departments and patients.
* Collaborate with diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and other ancillary services to facilitate seamless patient care.
* Administrative & Documentation Support:
* Accurately complete and manage medication requests, disability paperwork, FMLA requests, and other necessary patient-related documentation.
* Maintain meticulous patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
* Interdisciplinary
Collaboration:
* Work collaboratively and effectively with the physician, APPs, medical assistants, and other support staff to optimize patient flow and outcomes.
* Autonomy & Teamwork:
* Demonstrate the ability to work independently, manage a diverse workload, and prioritize tasks effectively.
* Function as an integral part of the healthcare team, contributing to a positive and supportive work environment.
* Travel:
* Regularly travel between Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) and the South Hills office location to support the assigned physician's clinic schedule.
GENERAL OVERVIEW:
The Registered Nurse assesses human responses and plans, implements and evaluates nursing care for individuals or families for whom the nurse is responsible. The Registered Nurse is fully responsible for all actions as a licensed nurse and is accountable to patients for the quality of care delivered. OF Nursing care is delivered in an outpatient setting
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assigns or delegates tasks based on the needs of the patient and skill level of the RN, LPN or support staff. Assigns duties and lunches for staff when performing charge role.
* Considers maintenance of a safe environment, patient condition, complexity of the intervention and predictability of the outcome.
* Provides peers with both verbal and written feedback regarding clinical practice and role performance.
* Shares knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues and cultivates a work environment that promotes positive employees attitudes, effective communications, trust, and collaboration.
* Willingly accepts mistakes of self and others, creating a culture in which risk taking is not only safe but expected and creativity, flexibility, resiliency, and adaptability are key.
* Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to evaluate clinical care or health services.
* Promotes patient safety initiatives (ex: National Patient Safety Goals).
* Participates in department specific quality initiatives ( ex: EBP population specific). Assures appropriate order sets are used.
* Supervises delegates and evaluates assigned LPN scope of practice as appropriate.
