UPMC Presbyterian, a Magnet designated hospital, is currently hiring a Casual Registered Nurse to support the 5G Neuro Trauma Unit. Join a collaborative team dedicated to delivering life-changing care to patients with complex neurological and trauma needs.
Position Overview
5G is a 22-bed progressive care unit specializing in brain and spinal cord trauma, stroke, and neurosurgical patients. Nurses work in a fast-paced environment alongside nationally recognized trauma and neurosurgery teams, providing comprehensive, patient-centered care.
Schedule & Casual Requirements
RNs work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, to support 24/7 patient care. Candidates will be placed into one of the following casual titles based on experience and availability:
+ Professional Staff Nurse - Limited Casual: 30 shifts per calendar year
+ Professional Staff Nurse - Casual:
Minimum of 36 hours in three pay periods, one holiday per year, and 24 off-shift/weekend/standby hours per quarter
Title and pay are determined by education, experience, and hours commitment with a starting rate of $37.30 per hour.

+ Minimum 1 year of RN experience; BSN preferred
+ Demonstrated knowledge of age-specific care, growth and development, and ability to assess and meet patient needs per department policies
+ Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; ability to apply and lead the nursing process
+ Effective communicator able to build positive working relationships with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
+ Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, complex environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment
+ Physical ability to meet job demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and positioning patients
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances
+ Current RN license in the state of practice or compact state
+ BLS/CPR required within 30 days (AHA-compliant); ACLS within one year of hire
+ UPMC-approved national certification preferred
+ Act 34 clearance required
