The Opportunity
A well-established and highly regarded Labor & Employment / Employee Benefits practice is seeking an Employee Benefits Associate Attorney to join its growing team. This position offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated benefits and executive compensation matters for regional and national clients while enjoying a collaborative culture and flexible hybrid work environment.
Associates in this role gain meaningful client exposure, hands-on responsibility, and the chance to work closely with experienced practitioners across labor, employment, corporate, and tax disciplines.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience advising employers on employee benefits and executive compensation matters. This role involves a mix of day-to-day client counseling, regulatory compliance, transactional support, and strategic planning.
Representative Matters Include
- ERISA compliance and fiduciary governance
- Qualified retirement plans (401(k), pension, profit-sharing)
- Health and welfare plans (medical, dental, vision, disability, cafeteria plans)
- Executive compensation and incentive programs
- Equity compensation (stock options, RSUs, performance-based awards)
- Nonqualified deferred compensation (Section 409A)
- COBRA, HIPAA, and ACA compliance
- Employee benefits aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings
- Benefits-related issues in reductions in force and reorganizations
- Draft and review plan documents, SPDs, amendments, and summaries
- Advise employers on IRS and Department of Labor compliance
- Assist with benefit plan audits and government inquiries
- Support corporate transactions through benefits due diligence and integration
- Counsel clients on fiduciary duties, compliance risk, and best practices
- Collaborate with corporate, tax, and employment law teams
- 2-5 years of employee benefits and executive compensation experience
- Strong working knowledge of ERISA and related federal regulations
- Experience with retirement and health & welfare plans preferred
- Pennsylvania bar admission (or ability to obtain promptly)
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and client communication skills
