Asset Management's Substation Maintenance Program Planning group is made up of engineers and subject matter experts primarily responsible for:
- increasing asset reliability and minimizing asset life-cycle costs
- ensuring compliance of a number of federal and state regulatory standards
- providing technical support to field during corrective maintenance activities, including test procedures, working with OEMs, and sourcing replacement parts
- developing preventative maintenance programs and asset spare strategies for substation assets
- prioritizing and planning proactive upgrades of equipment based on inspections, testing and condition assessments
- responding to emergent out of service equipment
- investigating and performing root cause analysis for unique or recurring failures
- evaluating new technologies and developing programs or projects for implementing new technologies on the system
- managing multiple capital and expense programs and projects to a budget, including prioritizing work orders and forecasting 5-year spend
- supporting colleagues from other groups within the company with data requests and recommendations, as needed
- asset data quality in work management tools (Maximo, Powerbase) as equipment is added, replaced, and removed from service and maintaining the job plans and preventative maintenance schedules and frequencies
As part of this position, Senior Engineer will develop engineering solutions to complex issues, serve as a subject matter expert on substation equipment issues to groups within and outside of Asset Management, and provide mentoring and guidance to other engineers.
Senior Engineer will lead and oversee critical Asset Management driven projects as well as resolving urgent issues that place customers out of service or posing a significant impact to system reliability.
Job Responsibilities:
- Asset Strategy:
Develop asset spare strategies by identifying existing gaps for Transmission and Distribution equipment including, but not limited to, breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, and miscellaneous spare replacement parts. Lead and support implementation of new technology monitoring asset health for circuit breakers. Develop asset health metrics to assist with forecasting resource spend and prolonging asset life. - Maintenance Planning:
Monitor, trend, prioritize, and provide support in the repair and corrective maintenance of substation assets including leaking transformers, in-operable LTC's and regulators, and switch gear breaker trouble. Support affordability initiatives by making data-driven cost vs. repair decisions. Sponsor one or more projects or programs with budget(s) greater than $1,000,000. Prioritize work within projects and programs and work with Schedulers, Asset Management, and System Planning to coordinate job scopes.
Identify opportunities for improving efficiencies in maintenance practices to reduce expense spend. - Trouble Support: Lead the investigation, mitigation, repair, and communications throughout the duration of the restoration of urgent or emergent trouble events. Complete root cause analysis, as required, and recommend remediation action or actions working with Supply Chain, Workforce Development, and/or Engineering.
- Customer Excellence: Interface with industrial and commercial customers to plan, maintain, and upgrade equipment at customer substations.
