Safety and Facilities Specialist

Overview
Don’s Appliances is seeking a Safety and Facilities Specialist to promote a safe, secure, and compliant work environment across all company operations. This position ensures adherence to OSHA and company safety standards through regular inspections, risk assessments, training, and incident investigations. The role also oversees site security systems, access controls, and emergency preparedness. Working closely with operations, HR, and management, the Safety and Security Specialist drives continuous improvement in safety culture, regulatory compliance, and employee awareness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Safety and Facilities

  • Perform routine inspections of buildings, grounds, and machinery to identify hazards. Conduct risk assessments and audits to ensure compliance and mitigate potential dangers.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and monthly safety audits of warehouse /facilities areas, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Provide risk assessment and identify potential hazards and work with supervisors to implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure all incident/ claims are reported in EHS within 24 hours and ensure all CAPA’s are completed.
  • Lead accident investigations, ensure they are complete and classified in EHS within 10 days of claim submission, document findings, and develop follow-up safety measures.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety audits, incidents, and training in EHS.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports to regulatory agencies, file and maintain the OSHA 300 annual reports.
  • Coordinate and deliver safety orientation and refresher training for all employees.
  • Support the development, review, and enforcement of safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all safety equipment (e.g., fire extinguishers, first aid kits, eyewash stations, PPE) is maintained and readily available.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) in PPE that ensures system adequacy and provides employee training and education as necessary.
  • Documents and guides incident investigations to facilitate root cause identification and tracking of incident trends, corrective and preventative actions and other dashboard metrics in EHS.
  • Facilitate the planning, scheduling, development, delivery and evaluation of System-wide safety education programs through EHS.
  • Lead Safety Committee Meetings and help drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Abate all recommendations from RSM, insurance brokers and site inspectors. Notify RSM immediately of any regulatory agency contact.
  • Upload all work hours for all locations into EHS monthly.


Fleet

  • Update and maintains driver data and training records in SAMBA.
  • Ensure and maintain records for company drivers to verify they have proper training required by the state and vendors and works with HR Team to ensure random drug testing requirements.
  • Assist with maintaining up to date company vehicle inspections and DOT compliance.
  • Other projects as needed.


Security

  • Monitor and manage security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access control points.
  • Overseas and administers site keycard access for employees.
  • Oversee visitor, vendor, and contractor access to ensure adherence to security protocols.
  • Investigate reports of theft, vandalism, or other security incidents and prepare incident reports.
  • Collaborate with management, HR, and law enforcement as needed for incident resolution.
  • Develop emergency response planning and participate in drills (fire, evacuation, etc.).

Education/ Experience /Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required, associate or bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in safety, facilities security, or compliance—preferably in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA standards, workplace safety regulations, and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, observation, and documentation skills.
  • Effective writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to listen and interact with employees on health and safety issues.
