Full Time Visiting Lecturer, Anthropology

Archaeology

The Department of Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time visiting lecturer position in archaeology to begin in Fall 2026. The teaching load for this position is 6 courses (18 credits) per year: three courses in each of the Fall and Spring terms. The courses will be taught at undergraduate levels, and they will include large lecture courses, smaller undergraduate seminars, methods, and writing courses.

For this position, we seek a Candidate with expertise in US-based archaeology and cultural resource management. The successful Candidate will develop and teach courses including Archaeology of North America, Cultural Resource Management, Basic Archaeological Lab Methods, and Pots and People. The Candidate may also be asked to teach other courses depending on curricular needs in the Department of Anthropology.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Anthropology at the time of appointment. The position is outside the tenure stream, but it is renewable for two additional years in the same employment category, based on need, funding, and continued excellence in teaching.
