Facilitating Health and Recovery

Youth with substance use issues are at a higher risk for mental health problems, including depression, behavioral issues, and suicide. The Lincoln Families Multidimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) Program provides short-term intensive therapy to families and youth struggling with substance use and mental health challenges through a variety of therapeutic and behavioral supports designed for:

  • Adolescents:
    Providing individual therapy to improve self-awareness and confidence, set goals, build communication and social skills, and reduce substance use and problem behaviors.
  • Parents:
    Assisting parents to regain influence over their adolescent.
  • Families:
    Coaching and modeling to improve family problem-solving and increase feelings of love and connection.
  • Communities:
    Improving access to community systems such as school and probation for decreasing barriers to treatment.
Position Summary

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, provide individual and family therapy to youth and families using the Multi-Dimensional Family Therapy (MDFT) model. Work with families in their homes and communities using an evidence-based model that involves strong engagement, strategic planning, flexibility, and close emotional proximity to families. Facilitate new, curative experiences within families and the systems they navigate. Team with Family Advocates to establish community resources for families and remove barriers to therapeutic goals.

Become certified in the MDFT model through a process of didactic and experiential training provided by certified trainers in a supportive environment, and contribute to the growing body of research determining best practices working with adolescents, families and their environmental systems.

Essential Functions
  • Provide assessment and treatment to identified clients and their families according to the MDFT model.
  • Conduct intake process in coordination with manager and family advocate.
  • Collaborate with community partners, which may include but not limited to probation, school administration, court officials and other community representatives as needed.
  • Complete assessments and treatment plans within agency required timelines.
  • Demonstrate awareness of, sensitivity to and competence with cultural and socioeconomic diversity of client population.
  • Provide crisis intervention to youth and families in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Participate in managing MDFT crisis line as assigned.
  • Meet MDFT expectations regarding dosage of direct client-care services while maintaining fidelity to MDFT’s short term treatment duration (4-6 months).
  • Develop discharge plan and assess continued care needs in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Weekly, create a strategic plan to facilitate adolescent, parent and family shifts in alignment with treatment goals.
  • Track weekly individual and family therapy sessions in MDFT portal.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, individual and group, as assigned and needed.
  • Work independently, developing and managing own schedule and strategies for engaging families within required parameters, while also participating in program activities and supervision.
  • Valid California driver’s license, a satisfactory driving record and personal vehicle insurance coverage.
