Parking Enforcement Technician

The City is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Parking Enforcement Technician to support the daily operation of the City’s paid parking program. This position performs a variety of field and office duties related to the use, maintenance, and enforcement of parking facilities and equipment. Key responsibilities include patrolling assigned areas to ensure compliance with parking regulations, responding to parking-related issues, and performing repair and maintenance of parking meters and other related equipment.

The Parking Enforcement Technician also assists with recordkeeping, reporting, and customer service related to parking operations. In the absence of the Parking Supervisor, this position may provide training and oversight to part‑time parking staff, helping to ensure consistent enforcement and quality service. This is a full‑time position requiring the ability to work independently, interact professionally with the public, and perform work outdoors in varying conditions.

The ideal candidate will have strong problem‑solving skills, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to fair and courteous enforcement of parking regulations. Under general supervision, performs a variety of field and office work supporting the function and use of the City’s parking program, including repair and maintenance of meters and other applicable parking equipment. The position will patrol assigned areas to gain compliance with parking regulations.

This position may train and oversee part‑time parking staff as needed in the absence of the Parking Supervisor. • Installs and maintains parking meters and other related parking equipment.
• Diagnoses mechanical, electronic, or programming problems and determines repair requirements.
• Responds tactfully to questions and comments from the general public.
• Tests, disassembles, inspects, and assembles parking meters and other parking equipment.
• Overhauls, adjusts, and programs meters; cleans parking meters both in field and shop.
• Coordinates removal and installation of parking meters and parking regulatory signs with contractors, inspectors, and other City personnel.
• Orders supplies and materials; maintains and keeps records of all purchases and equipment.
• Conducts parking studies and prepares reports as required.
• Implements goals, objectives, ordinances, regulations, policies, and priorities for parking enforcement programs; identifies resource needs; researches, recommends, and implements policies and procedures, including standard operating procedures.
• Participates in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of all parking control equipment.
• Personally performs parking enforcement duties, including writing and issuing notices of violations.
• Coordinates with the Parking Division Supervisor and City department representatives to determine City needs and requirements for contractual services; negotiates contracts and agreements; oversees technical consultants’ work products to ensure adherence to City standards and legal provisions; ensures that deliverables are submitted on time and budget and that progress and payment requests are consistent with City policy and contract provisions.
• Provides administrative support to the Parking Supervisor, such as conducting research, performing special projects, developing reports, or compiling statistics.
• Monitors changes in regulations and technology that may affect operations; provides recommendation for implementing policy and procedural changes after approval.
• Receives, investigates, and responds to problems and complaints in a professional manner; identifies and reports findings and takes necessary corrective action.
• Provides customer service informing citizens of parking regulations and assisting citizens with completing transactions for paid parking.
