Overview

Title: RN - Critical Care

Location: Pikeville, KY

Duration: 10 Weeks

Shift: Nights, 48 hrs/week; 7pm – 7am

Requirements: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, EKG required; travel experience required; 5+ years experience required

Responsibilities
  • Assesses/reassesses young adult, adult, and elderly patients and applies the nursing process to: care of critically ill patients; airway management (basic and advanced); pain management; cardiac monitoring and care; post-operative vascular surgery care/recovery; neurological, neurovascular, orthopedic care; gastrointestinal care; pulmonary/respiratory care; genitourinary/renal care; enteral nutrition; skin assessment/care; central venous catheter care and maintenance; specialized IV drips/titration; medication administration; information management; IV therapy;

    transfusion therapy; invasive monitoring; waive testing; sedation; assist with specialized procedures; use specialized equipment; manage Code Blue in the May Tower/Pediatrics; admission/discharge criteria; troubleshooting; infection control; continuous renal replacement therapy; manage Code Blue for inpatient areas; attend all mandatory education and in-services
Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process, within established standards and practices for assigned patients.

Essential Functions
  • Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care as indicated.
  • Performs a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and re-assessments as per policy.
  • Provides individualized, age-specific care that supports homeostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring and physiologic functioning.
  • Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessments of changes.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Maintains patient confidentiality. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families. Functions as patient advocate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development over the life span and provides age-appropriate care. Interprets data about the patient’s status to identify age-specific needs.
  • Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves them in the plan of care. Reviews/revises/updates/resolves plan of care daily.
  • Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness; includes family in teaching, as appropriate.
  • Supervises other health care staff involved in patient care. Allocates and monitors the work of others.
  • Assists physicians with procedures in the department as needed.
  • Responds promptly to changes in workload to achieve optimal productivity and efficiency.
  • Participates in development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement activities to improve patient outcomes and processes.
