Work Planner – Phillips Infrastructure
Summary
Patrol electric utility right‑of‑ways and identify vegetation requiring periodic line clearance maintenance to meet applicable specifications or guidelines. Assist in training and mentoring Work Planner personnel, inspecting and auditing work in progress and completed work, monitoring the performance of other Work Planners, and performing other duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Initial patrol of facilities as directed by the Consulting Utility Forester.
- Identify “Danger Trees” along assigned Smart Track .
- Inspect “Danger Trees” and determine whether to record and label tree as a “Hazard tree.”
- Record “Hazard Tree” information in the Smart Track system.
- Label “Hazard Tree” in the field.
- Locate property owners and inform them of the work to be performed.
- Inspect, mark, and record trees in accordance with program objectives.
- Inspect site conditions for workplace hazards, riparian and environmental concerns.
- Basic familiarity with computer systems and willingness to learn.
- Ability to walk/hike up to 5 miles per day in adverse field conditions, including varying terrain, weather, and seasonal changes.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home overnight.
- Professional attitude and neat appearance.
- Self‑motivated and efficient.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Degree in Forestry, Arboriculture, or related field; related utility experience is desirable.
- Demonstrated abilities in teamwork, leadership, and problem solving.
- Experience pulling a 16’–18’ utility trailer with a pickup truck preferred.
- Experience operating a Utility Vehicle (UTV) preferred.
- Prior Work Planner or related utility line clearance experience preferred.
May be required to lift objects up to 80 pounds and practice good back posture and ergonomic principles. Must wear personal protective equipment in the field (safety glasses, boots, hard hat, gloves, etc.). May be exposed to extreme heat and cold. May be required to drive a company vehicle; a valid driver’s license and approval are mandatory.
EnvironmentWork alone in an outdoor field environment; vehicle and foot patrol of utility power lines in remote and urban settings. Physical demands include walking/hiking on various surfaces, exposure to noise, dust, grease, and all types of weather and temperature conditions, and hazardous traffic conditions.
PhysicalPrimary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a field environment; walk, stand, sit, and operate a motor vehicle for prolonged periods. Must frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, run, crawl, climb, reach, twist, grasp, and perform repetitive hand movements. Must carry/push/pull light to moderate loads (5–20 lbs). Must be able to operate assigned equipment and vehicles, see, hear, and communicate effectively.
Candidates must undergo a pre‑employment physical examination; completion is mandatory.
