A Brief OverviewThe Registered Nurse delivers Nursing Care for Adult Specialty units including Specialty areas of Nephrology, Transplant, Neurology, Extended Care, and Cardiovascular Patients. Developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends to understand patient conditions, medications, and self‑care skills; noting changing conditions and needs; re‑evaluating care objectives.
Filling a vital role utilizing the nursing process to independently deliver nursing care to achieve quality outcomes and receive guidance/supervision based on leader‑ and self‑assessment of opportunities for skill enhancement. The RN provides a high‑level of clinical nursing care to assigned patients, performing related assessments, procedures and treatments, evaluations, patient care plan development/revisions, and education to patient and/or family.
- Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide a high level of nursing care in units to which assigned. Recognizes the importance of being a professional role model for others.
- Assesses patient's condition based upon observation, examination, and/or interview, physician's diagnosis, laboratory findings, age‑related issues, and other pertinent information. Uses professional judgment and critical thinking to prepare, prioritize and execute the patient's plan of care consistent with patient assessment data and physician's treatment plans and professional standards of evidence‑based practice/care.
- Implements nursing interventions to achieve progress toward expected patient outcomes or to stabilize a patient's condition and/or prevent complications. Completes assessment in specified time frame. Identifies and consistently recognizes changes in normal and abnormal parameters in the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental, and spiritual needs.
- Participates in interdisciplinary patient care planning and evaluates patient progression in preparation for safe discharge.
- Identifies and completes assessments of patient (family) educational needs. Provides education consistent with patient's level of understanding using existing resources based on diagnosis, treatment plan or prescribed medical regimen.
- Incorporates the patient's physiological, psychological, cultural, developmental and spiritual needs into the plan of care. Evaluates and documents patients' response to nursing care and modifies or revises treatment plans, and/or contacts physicians as circumstances require.
- Follows patient care and facility guidelines and procedures in performance of one's duties consistently. Works closely with the Nurse Manager to ensure that all budgetary, Process Improvement, Core Measures and Patient Satisfaction initiatives are achieved.
- Directs and delegates support personnel in implementing patient's plan of care, provides guidance, and immediately intervenes with deviation standards of care. Assists in the education and training of other nurses and nursing students.
- Performs both complex and routine treatments as prescribed by physicians, approved nursing protocols that aligns with clinical assessment of patient's condition. Follows policies and protocol when administering medications, starting intravenous fluids and blood products.
- Keeps patient care equipment operating by following operating instructions and established procedures; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Keeps patient care supplies ready by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt; stocking items.
