Position Summary
Skilled nursing care for incarcerated offenders. Weekend night shift (7 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) – 36 hours per week (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Salary: $25.73–$34.03 per hour, with $5.00 night and $1.50 weekend differential and overtime potential. $5,000 hiring incentive, full state benefits and SDRS retirement.

- Maintain accurate offender medical records.
- Provide patient education within nursing guidelines.
- Transcribe reports across shift changes.
- Preserve confidentiality.
- Administer medications, provide physical care, collaborate on treatment plans.
- Perform crisis intervention, triage offenders, and conduct instruction/orientation.
- Assist physicians, PA, NP with minor procedures.
- Order and restock medications and supplies.
- Support restraining offenders for medical reasons when required.
- Monitor physical and emotional condition of offenders during sick calls and emergencies.
- Ensure safety and security through contraband control and item counting.
- Operate clinical equipment and report security violations.
- Attend required trainings – Basic Training Academy, Threat Pattern Recognition, and self‑defense courses.
- Work any shift, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing.
- Effective patient care in varied settings.
- Adherence to patient confidentiality standards.
- Response to emergencies involving offenders or medical situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in English (verbal and written).
- Sound discernment, decision‑making, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work full‑time shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Intravenous certification.
- Long‑term and acute care experience.
- Correctional LPN experience.
Applicants must pass a background investigation, urine drug screen, TB screening and be able to perform essential functions. Must complete written and practical self‑defense exam, CPR per AHA guidelines, and be physically capable of the exam. Eligible for OC/pepper spray training.
