This position provides operational and supervisory oversight of multidisciplinary clinical services staff within the Department of Corrections. It is an Administrative Supervisor with direct field influence and accountability on all aspects of medical, dental, and behavioral health.

What you will do

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensures operational and administrative compliance with laws, rules, regulations, standards, state licensing/credentialing, etc. affecting the provision of nursing, medical, dental, and mental health services to offenders.
  • Preserve offenders' right to legally mandated healthcare by ensuring appropriate and cost-effective utilization of medical resources and personnel.
  • Establishes systems for the coordination of care among multi-disciplinary health care providers.
  • Protects the general public and ensures the safety of staff and offender rights to healthcare services.
  • Provides nursing care to offenders such as medication administration, emergency assessments, etc. during times of emergency.
  • Supervises, coaches, and mentors all disciplines of staff by developing performance plans, conducting performance reviews, and completing performance evaluations per SD DOC regulations, and resolves complaints/grievances at the administrative level.
  • Ensures staff compliance with the offender grievance process, offender co-pay, electronic data entry, and information systems requirements.
  • Ensures that the Chief Medical Officer and Chief of Clinical Operations, are notified of all medical sentinel events, reportable incidents, deaths, and health outbreaks.
  • Maintains continuing quality improvement (CQI) plans and processes with accurate and timely reporting.
  • Fosters an environment of cohesiveness while managing a multidisciplinary operation.
  • Incorporates strong team building strategies to promote partnerships and collaboration with institutional staff.
  • Meets routinely with supervisors to ensure understanding of each disciplines operations.
  • Attends senior management team meetings at the institution and contributes to operations management of the facility with a clinical component.
Qualifications
  • Applicant must possess a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
  • Applicant must have five (5) years of professional experience providing direct patient care.
  • Applicant must have two (2) years of nursing supervisory experience. Supervision is exercising span and control over subordinate staff to include coaching, mentoring, daily monitoring, performance management (planning, reviewing, and evaluating), resolving complaints/grievances, responsibility for scheduling and leave approval, and providing input that could affect pay, status, or tenure.
