- assess, diagnose and provide therapeutic care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- provide assistance to the Psychiatric Department by providing direct psychiatric assessments and interventions.
- this position will be primarily assigned to Adolescent Psychiatric Services but will provide coverage across the age spectrum noted.
- conduct admissions by performing comprehensive psychiatric evaluations;
- develop diagnostic impressions using DSM V criteria;
- document assessments, interventions and on-going treatment following best practices and HSC Policies and Procedures;
- complete discharge summaries as required and in compliance with HSC Policies and Procedures;
- identify, conduct, request and interpret results of special screening and laboratory tests;
- participate on treatment team staffing's as necessary;
- perform on-call duties as necessary;
- make daily rounds as required to provide follow-up treatment and assessments; and,
- develop medical records from examination and test findings.
Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday with weekend rotation and on-call rotation after hours and holidays.
Licenses and CertificationsApplicant must possess a certificate noting successful completion of a psychiatric nurse practitioner curriculum and examination approved by the South Dakota State Board of Nursing.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have Knowledge- acute and chronic behavioral health issues from adolescents through geriatric years;
- conducting psychiatric admission evaluations; inpatient treatment; & discharge of patients
- the practices and procedures of providing psychiatric interventions according to best practice guidelines;
- DSM V criteria;
- use of psychotropic medications to treat acute and chronic behavioral health issues;
- comprehensive treatment approach for patients with severe and persistent mental illness;
- community resources available;
- teaching methods employed in in-service training.
Ability to:
- work as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team;
- perform admission psychiatric evaluations;
- recognize and deal constructively with the needs and concerns of patients and families;
- complete discharge summaries;
- provide patient and family education;
- conduct clinical evaluations;
- communicate behavioral health needs and information clearly and concisely.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act. This position is eligible for Veterans' Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
