Program Assistant I – State of South Dakota
Agency: Department of Labor & Regulation – Electrical Commission
Location: Pierre, SD
Salary: $20.89–$23.49 per hour (dependent on qualifications)
Pay Grade: G
Employment Type: Full‑time, 40‑hour work week
ResponsibilitiesThe South Dakota Electrical Commission seeks a motivated self‑starter for the role of Program Assistant I. Responsibilities include licensing and permitting tasks and other duties related to these processes. The position may also assist other boards or commissions as needed.
Ideal CandidateExcellent customer service and business English skills—including grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Ability to work with modern office equipment, practices, and procedures. Strong prioritization skills to ensure timely and accurate completion of work with an emphasis on attention to detail.

- Technology and applying standard processes to new technology
- Public relations and customer service
- Type accurately in correspondence
- Proofread and edit rough copy for grammar, spelling, syntax, and style
- Organize and coordinate activities
- Research and compile data
- Screen documents against requirements, compare with established references, and verify accuracy and completeness
- Communicate concisely and effectively
- Read and comprehend written materials
- Accurately record, file, and transmit information
- Accomplish assigned professional tasks
- Exercise tact, patience, and discretion with diverse individuals
- Screen calls, take messages, greet clients, and refer people
- Sort and file documents
- Enter information from documents into spreadsheets and databases
- Adapt to change and initiate improvements in assigned work activities
- Work cooperatively with others to promote a friendly work climate and achieve shared goals
- No nights or weekends – 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday
