Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Service Director, the UTPO I operates and maintains the municipal water treatment plant, performing a variety of tasks including laboratory analysis.
JOB DESCRIPTION AND WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:JOB DUTIES in order of importance
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
45% (1) Perform monitoring and recording of supply and storage levels and pumping demands and demands on the distribution system. Perform monitoring of pumping demands to maintain storage supply. Perform various chemical, biological, and bacterial testing and analysis required by federal and state regulatory agencies including signing of EPA reports. Monitor and assess correct chemical dosage for proper treatment of the raw water supply.
Perform routine maintenance of valves, pumps, piping and related equipment necessary for the operation and maintenance of the treatment of raw water supply facility and distribution system. Participate in excavation of and perform repair of broken water mains in the distribution system as required.
40% (2) Consult with and provide information regarding the treatment plant operations. Monitor, analyze, and convey information regarding EPA regulations to assist in promulgation and implementation of appropriate policies to ensure compliance. Perform service line connection inspections as required.
10% (3) Assist in identifying needed parts and supplies for various areas of responsibility.
(4) Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.

Automobile, truck, and other street department equipment/machines (tractors, backhoe, dump trucks, snowplows, mowers, generators, pumps, etc.); personal computer (including software/applications); miscellaneous office equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The employee must negotiate, use, or work with or in the vicinity of floor openings, wall openings, and holes; open-sided floors, platforms, and runways; stairs; fixed industrial stairs; portable metal/wood ladders; fixed ladders; scaffolding; manually propelled mobile ladder stands and scaffolds; works in a confined space (i.e. manhole); manlifts; machinery with moving parts; exposed to noisy operations or activities; compressed gases;
acetylene; flammable and combustible liquids; air contaminants; and hazardous chemicals; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; has exposure to potentially vicious animals. Required to use personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, eye and face protection due to potential exposure to flying objects, impact, and other hazards; occupational head protection due to potential impact to the head from objects, electricity, and other hazards (required only when hazards are present or likely to be present);
occupational foot protection due to potential impact of objects, compression, or other hazards to the feet; hand protection. Exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); employee is often required to walk, use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls and to reach with hands and arms; exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions;
exposure to hazardous driving conditions; specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to focus.
Note:
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium work.
In cases of emergency, unpredictable situations, and/or department needs, may be required to lift, push, pull, and/or carry objects heavier than D.O.L. strength ratings recommend.
- Minimum high school diploma or completion of equivalent (G.E.D).
- Valid Ohio motor vehicle operator's license with the ability to obtain and maintain a CDL license. Must maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
