Duties and ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager of Emergency Services, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in a multidisciplinary, family‑centered environment. Responsibilities include personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, monitoring IVs, setting up medical equipment, performing ECGs and venipuncture as required, and other duties assigned.
Qualifications- Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from a recognized community college
- Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse
- 1–2 years Med/Surg experience within the last 24 months and/or previous/current Emergency Department experience
- Completed or willing to complete CC1 course within 6 months of hire
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (Ontario Heart & Stroke guidelines preferred)
- Certification to perform CPR at a basic Cardiac Life Support level
- Current Medication Administration course
- Physical Assessment course from a recognized institution or equivalent
- Experience performing electrocardiograms (ECGs) and venipuncture is an asset
- Sound organizational and prioritization skills, ability to work well under stress
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work with patients, families, staff, volunteers, and the community
- Ability to relate to patients and families from a diverse community setting
- Commitment to exceptional customer service within a multidisciplinary team and when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and the public
- Excellent documentation skills
- Ability to perform all RPN nursing duties to the full scope of practice preferred
- Satisfactory performance record

The terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with the Collective Agreement between the Hospital and C.U.P.E Local 6364.
Successful external applicants must provide a satisfactory Criminal Investigation Reference for the vulnerable sector dated within the past six (6) months.
