What is the project?
The Pickering Nuclear Generating Station refurbishment program involves designing and building a new deep-water intake in Lake Ontario to improve the plant's cooling system. This will involve:
- A 1.5 km-long tunnel, built by a pressurized TBM (10.15 m diameter slurry TBM);
- Two vertical shafts (onshore and offshore);
- An offshore modular intake structure, resting on the lake bed.
The project is distinguished by its proximity to an active nuclear site, requiring rigorous standards of safety, planning and coordination.
Concretely, your tasks will be:
Environment
Develop and implement environmental strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.Conduct comprehensive environmental impact assessments to identify potential risks and develop mitigation measures for construction activities.Manage the environmental budgetAct as the primary point of contact for on site environmental issues and concerns flagged by internal and external stakeholdersEnsure strict adherence to environmental regulations, permits, and standards throughout all project phases, including monitoring air quality, water quality, and noise levels.Collaborate with regulatory agencies, environmental consultants, community groups, and stakeholders to address environmental concerns and maintain transparent communication.Provide training and guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on environmental best practices, regulations, and protocols.Ensure environmental compliance by conducting audits regarding environmental standards on the projectImplement environmental monitoring programs to track environmental performance indicators and ensure continuous improvement.Overseeing the development and implementation of emergency response plans for environmental incidents, such as spills or leaks, ensuring prompt and effective mitigation measures.Lead sustainability initiatives within the project, focusing on energy efficiency, green procurement, biodiversity conservation, and carbon footprint reduction.Coordinate development and implement strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and municipal regulations.Coordinate development of environmental impact assessmentPermits
Manage permits and their relevant authorizationsCoordinate between multiple partners in design, methods, construction and environment for the preparation of the permits contentEnsure alignment between required permits and construction activitiesVerify that permit requests comply with internal procedures and regulatory requirementsMaintain an up-to-date register of issued and active permitsParticipate in internal audits and inspections related to permits.A bachelor or advanced degree with specialization in planning, environmental planning, environmental assessment, geography or another related discipline10-15 years’ experience in a lead role on complex projects throughout the project lifestylesExperience with the implementation and management of environmental management systemsStrong expertise in work permit procedures and strong knowledge of HSE requirementsExperience with permitting in Ontario and coordination of permits with agencies and stakeholdersIn-depth knowledge of ISO 14001 standards and QHSE regulations applicable to large construction projectsProven experience in tunneling or underground worksExperience working on projects with high-risk environments (nuclear, offshore, or similar)Excellent communication skills, both written and verbalProven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a teamProactive approach to problem-solvingAcute sense of detail-orientationPourquoi nous rejoindre ?Gross annual salary between 100K and 130K. depending on experience and profile4 vacation weeks & 3 emergency/sickness days paid;Annual bonuses;Group Health Insurance (premium participation including virtual health care system);Wellness spending account;Career development opportunities;A cosmopolite and inclusive work environment;Attractive and challenging project.Entité
