Position: RESP THERAPIST-CRT

Job Summary

The licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (also known as a respiratory therapist) performs under direct supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Manager and is delegated an assignment by the supervisor to achieve quality patient care and expected productivity during a routine workflow experience. The therapist shall implement all basic and advanced procedures (non-invasive and invasive) as ordered by the physician in a systematic manner to include assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team as evidenced by documentation in the patient care record, direct observation by the supervisor and patient evaluation of care.

The therapist is ultimately accountable to the respiratory supervisor and department director. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient s requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needed.

Demonstrates knowledge and sensitivity to cultural and religious beliefs of patients, visitors and staff. Demonstrates knowledge and skills for the operation, management and re-processing of all respiratory equipment.

Performance Expectations

Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation and precepted phases of your orientation to your job.

  • Demonstrates critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Respiratory equipment including but not limited to PB 980 Ventilators, V60 Bipaps, EzPap, Aerobika, and the GEM analyzer.
  • Performs EKG’s and demonstrates knowledge of current system utilized in the workplace environment.
  • Communicates with team members and departmental leadership.
  • Consults with physicians and nursing staff regarding patient care, reactions, errors and complaints.
  • Accepts personal ownership of remaining current with changes in department processes by checking communication at each shift.
  • Communicates with a friendly, courteous and compassionate manner in all interactions with staff, patients, families and visitors while achieving exceptional, sustained quality patient care.
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve the department s goals.
  • Champions the development and growth of safety culture.
  • Participates in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines.
  • Complies with the departmental and facility policy.
  • Follows the policies in the Employee Handbook.
  • Uses “We Care” philosophy in daily communication
  • Required appropriate use of the department’s communication app.
  • The spreading of rumors and gossip creates unnecessary turmoil, weakens working relationships, and is contrary to the spirit of the hospital and is prohibited.

Qualifications

Education/Skills

Graduate of Accredited Respiratory Care Practitioner Program required.

Work Experience:

Respiratory Therapy work experience is preferred.

Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE

  • Licensed with MS Department of Health (MSRT)
  • Registered by NBRC

Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below

  • Basic Life Support

Within 30 Days of Employment

Required

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

  • Pediatric Advance Life Support

Within 90 Days of Employment

Required

  • Neonatal Resuscitation

Within 90 Days of Employment

Mental Demands:

Ability to exercise good judgement and accuracy with the realization that error may have serious consequence to patients. Ability to perform as a dependable team member, cooperates with others, follow directions precisely and function under stress. Demonstrate initiative, set priorities appropriately for patient care and required training and education
