SUMMARY:

The Transportation Routing/Dispatch Specialist responsible for the daily routing and scheduling of buses, vans, drivers, and assistants to ensure all students arrive to and from school and other activities in a safe manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Develops and adjust routes to maximize bus capacity while minimizing cost and transportation time.

* Schedules buses, vans, drivers, and assistants on a daily basis to ensure all routes and field trips are covered. Assigns substitutes as needed, and drives a bus or vehicle when necessary.

* Communicates with parents/guardians, administrators, campus staff, transportation staff, and organizations to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of students.

* Coordinates the contracted transportation of students who require specialized transportation.

* Coordinates the transportation of students using in-house, or contracted vehicles.

* Periodically inspects buses/vans to ensure standards are compliant with Arizona State Statutes and DPS minimum standards.

* Coordinates bus/van repairs with mechanics.

* Assists with training and monthly safety meetings.

* Updates, checks, maintains, and files daily records; such as payroll, absence logs, fuel and mileage logs, and notifies the Transportation Director of any discrepancies.

* Prepares end-of-month reports such as fuel usage, mileage, field trips, and students transported.

* Function as a bus driver when necessary.

* Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND three years of experience operating a bus and one year of dispatch experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License and Certification Requirements:

A valid Arizona State Commercial Driver's License with Passenger and School Bus endorsements is required.

Must possess a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint clearance card within 90 days of employment.

* Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

* Ability to provide excellent customer experiences, including but not limited to interacting tactfully and courteously with the public.
