Purpose Statement
The job of Transportation Bus Non-Driving Aide is to support the educational process by assisting special education students during transport to and from school and/or special activities, helping students on and off the bus, and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles.

Location: Transportation Dept.
Duration: 9 months
FTE: 30-40 hours/week
Benefits: Available at 30+ hours/week
Grade: 16, $16.99/hr
Start Date: 7/30/2025

Essential Functions
  • Assist special education students and other passengers to ensure safe loading and unloading during normal and emergency situations.
  • Attend meetings, training, and workshops to gather information for job performance.
  • Instruct students to enforce rules, maintain safety, and promote well-being.
  • Monitor students with special needs until released to appropriate personnel, ensuring safe transportation.
  • Prepare incident and misconduct reports to document activities and communicate information.
  • Report observations and incidents to relevant personnel.
  • Secure students and their equipment for safety and well-being.
Other Functions

Perform other duties as assigned to ensure efficient work unit functioning.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Adhere to safety practices, maintain accurate records, operate transport equipment, administer first aid, understand written procedures, and communicate effectively with diverse groups. Ability to work with medically fragile children, utilize safety equipment, and solve practical problems.

Physical Demands: Significant lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, crouching, crawling, and fine motor skills. Typically 50% sitting, 10% walking, 40% standing. Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury.

Experience: Not required.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Certificates and Licenses: CPR, First Aid, and Physical Performance Test certificates.

Clearances: Criminal Background Clearance.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.
