Position: Recreation Coordinator II - Parks and Recreation Department (South District)

Overview

The Parks and Recreation Department provides residents and visitors more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves. The parks feature 41 Trailheads and more than 200 miles of trails, and 182 city parks. Additionally, there are 32 community and recreation centers, classes and sports programs for all ages, 29 pools, eight golf courses, and a variety of specialty and cultural venues and facilities.

Position The Parks Recreation Coordinator II plans, develops, implements, and evaluates recreation programs at park facilities, community centers for sports, art and culture, enrichment classes, school-based after school programs, and/or specialty programs. There are two Recreation Coordinator II positions within the South Division that are currently open. One position will be based at South Mountain Community Center, while the second position will oversee programming and operations at Hayden and Playa Recreation Centers.

Both roles support the planning, coordination, and delivery of high-quality recreational programs, community events, and facility operations that serve the needs of the surrounding neighborhoods.

Responsibilities
  • Supervising full and part-time employees and volunteers.
  • Communicating and cultivating connections and partnerships with individuals and groups to support department activities.
  • Planning and coordinating special events.
  • Maintaining financial and activity records for submittal.
  • Administering department services including internet registration and reservations.
Ideal Candidate
  • Computer Skills (POS, Office, ACTIVENet, and others).
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively, independently and on a team.
  • Ability to build positive networks within the community to promote programs.
  • Ability to analyze complex procedures and provide feedback for improvements.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or with teams of both technical and non-technical staff.
Salary

Pay Range: $58,593.60 - $90,916.80 annually.

Hiring Range: $58,593.60 - $85,451.20 annually.

  • Hiring range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.

Internal Only: Please understand that this is pay grade 052. If selected, your salary offer will be based on the applicable promotion or demotion worksheet in accordance with the City Pay Ordinance.

  • Promotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade increase.
  • Demotions occur when the last two digits of the pay grade decrease.
  • Lateral transfers occur when there is no change to the last two digits of the pay grade.
  • When there is a change in the first digit of the pay grade, there may also be a change to your classification or unit.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor s degree in recreation, leisure studies, or a degree related to an area of specialization.
  • One year of full-time, year-round professional or paraprofessional experience in recreation,
  • OR One year experience equivalent to the level of Recreation Coordinator I.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
  • All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
  • Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprinted and will have their fingerprints used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
