About This Position

The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues is one of the premier convention facilities in the United States. It hosts a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events. The City of Phoenix is seeking dedicated employees with extensive journey-level experience in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and remodeling of buildings, offices, and other facilities. Assignments involve numerous trades and skills, such as rough carpentry, cabinet making, plumbing, roofing, painting, drywall finishing, and concrete/masonry work. This position performs daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair work on doors and traditional style locks throughout city facilities and buildings.

A high degree of competence in several trades is expected, with more than one at or above the acceptable skilled level.

Assignments are varied and are received in the form of oral or printed work orders and may be accompanied by pictures, sketches, penciled layouts, or blueprints. Work is performed independently or in teams, and incumbents are responsible for determining appropriate work methods, tools, and materials for most assignments. Work involves occasionally serving as a crew leader over other Building Maintenance Workers for specified projects, and some positions regularly lead other Trades Helpers.

Work is performed according to general or specific instructions from a Building Maintenance Foreman, Building Maintenance Worker, or other supervisor, who inspects work while in progress and upon completion.

Ideal Candidate
  • Knowledge and skilled in installing, maintaining, and repairing door components.
  • Knowledge and skills in installing, maintaining, repairing, and painting drywall.
  • Familiar with methods, practices, tools, and materials used in building maintenance and repair work.
  • Ability to use and care of hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various plumbing repairs, building maintenance and other repair tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize the own workload based upon such factors as need for immediate action, work objectives, work schedule, knowledge of future needs, etc.
Salary

Pay Range: $26.18 - $38.68 per hour.

Hiring Range: $26.18 - $31.82 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Three years of skilled level experience in building maintenance and repair work, with a high level of proficiency in at least two of the building trades.
  • Completion of an acceptable apprenticeship program,
