Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Felix Construction Company, a top self-performing water/wastewater contractor in the Valley, is seeking an experienced Lead Technician for our Heavy Equipment Shop. This role will diagnose issues make repairs to a wide variety of heavy equipment. This position will include some field repairs as needed. The position is 40 hours a week with occasional overtime. What You'll Be DoingThe Heavy Equipment Shop Lead serves as the lead technician within the maintenance shop, assisting in daily operations, repair schedules, and will serve as the primary diagnostician on the floor. This role ensures that all heavy equipment is maintained to operational standards; repairs are completed efficiently, and safety protocols are strictly followed. The lead’s main role is coordinating workflow, parts ordering, and prioritizing repairs based on the needs provided by the Shop Supervisor.
- 40-hour work week, Monday thru Friday with occasional overtime in a climate-controlled shop.
- Diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on heavy equipment.
- Assist and provide diagnostic support to shop personnel including mechanics, lube techs, and assistants.
- Assign and monitor daily work orders, ensuring timely and quality completion of repairs and maintenance.
- Coordinate with the Equipment Supervisor on service priorities and equipment availability.
- Order parts and supplies in coordination with vendors and purchasing teams.
- Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and equipment histories.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Promote a culture of accountability and teamwork.
- Communicate clearly with field teams regarding equipment status and expected completion times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environment.
- Ensure proper storage and usage of tools and materials.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications preferred.
- CAT E.T. Knowledge a must.
- 5+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 1 year in a leadership role.
- Strong diagnostic skills and hands‑on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with fleet management software and maintenance tracking systems.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
