Electrician Apprentice – Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University, a regionally accredited, private, non‑denominational Christian university located in Phoenix, Arizona, is seeking a full‑time Electrician Apprentice to join its Facilities Services Department.

Pay: $14.50 per hour
Duration: 4–6 months

• Assist with the inspection and testing of electrical components and systems including transformers, transfer switches, and switch gears.
• Help diagnose, repair, assemble, and install various electrical components and systems.
• Interpret electrical blueprints and schematics.
• Use a variety of tools and techniques to complete electrical tasks.
• Identify electrical problems with a variety of testing devices.
• Obtain price quotations on materials needed and submit purchasing orders for approval.
• Utilize the work order system to record detailed handling of scheduled assignments, including hours needed to complete each assignment.
• Perform work at various heights—from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, or other safe work areas. Fall protection safety training and equipment will be provided as required.
• Ability to positively identify the colors of wires.
• Observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required.
• Wear the provided personal protective equipment (PPE) as required, including hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes, dust masks, respirators, etc.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
• Must be currently in the GCU Electrical Apprentice Program.
• Ability to work from ladders of various sizes and types.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Proficient in the use of personal computers, smartphones, and related software applications.
• Skilled in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
• Demonstrate effective communication both orally and in writing with varied groups, including university students, faculty, staff, professionals, governmental entities, community groups, and the general public.
• Act collaboratively to solve problems and resolve spontaneous and unique situations with professionalism and service orientation.
• Must pass a pre‑employment background investigation.
